Advice for Referrers
East Coast ADHD is a fully online specialist psychiatry service for the assessment and treatment of ADHD in adults (18+). Patients may be new to querying ADHD, or they may have been previously diagnosed and treated, seeking to continue care.
Submit a referral if you have patients who are 18+ and are likely to benefit from assessment and/or ongoing treatment for ADHD. Patients will need to fully disclose their medical and drug use history, and need to be medically stable and appropriate for ADHD treatment. Referrals may be deferred if the patient has psychiatric comorbidities or addictions that prevent the proper and safe management of ADHD. Some patients may require general psychiatric or addictions treatment prior to being referred to this service for ADHD.
All new patients require demonstration of cardiovascular health via an ECG and recording of baseline parameters of height, weight, blood pressure and pulse rate. Advice may be given if your patient requires additional investigations - drug screen, pathology and neuroimaging - as part of their work-up.
Some patients may benefit from a neuropsychology assessment to assist with clarifying their ADHD diagnosis.
Patients will be asked for collateral information via school reports, family/spouse reports and past diagnostic assessments. Some patients may be prescribed medication at the initial appointment, or at subsequent appointments depending on the time taken to complete assessment, and the outcome of assessment.
Patients may be asked to schedule additional appointments for treatment planning and reviews to monitor their treatment.
One benefit of telehealth is the nationwide accessibility of this service to the regions. All appointments are video consults powered by Healthengine. Referrals are now accepted across Australia.
